To determine whether water loss in your pool is due to evaporation or a leak, performing a bucket test can be very helpful. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide:

1. Make sure any AutoFill system is turned off.             2. Fill a bucket with water about an inch from the top and place it on the pool steps.                                      3. Mark the water level in the bucket and the pool with a piece of tape. Leave the bucket in place for 24 hours with the pool running as normal, but without using the pool.                                                                  4. After 24 hours, compare the water levels. If the pool has lost more water than the bucket, you may have a leak. If both levels are similar, evaporation is likely the cause.                                                            This test can be performed in any weather conditions and will help you avoid unnecessary service calls and expenses!
